摘要

COTTON farmers have felt burned the last two years contracting their cotton too early in the season, missing out on higher prices and, in some cases, record-high prices later in the season. The price ride this year could be just as volatile, University of Georgia cotton economist Don Shurley told farmers across the Southeast this winter. They shouldn't assume prices this year will go higher later in the season. "We're going to have another wild ride this year in regard to prices, I believe. That's tomake the long story short," Shurley said. The season will be a fight between the proverbial "bear" and the "bull," each gnawing or ripping to pull the market higher or lower. Earlier this year, their battle saw swings of 5 cents to 10 cents per pound. The fight could get nastier later this year.
