An experiment was conducted with M. oleifera, having 21 treatments, involving applications of organic (10 kg farmyard manure (FYM)+250 kg neem [Azadirachta indica] cake (NC)+20 g Azospirillum; FYM+NC+20 g vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizas (VAM); FYM+NC+2% Panchakavya (a plant growth stimulant); 500 g poultry manure (PM)+NC+Azospirillum; PM+NC+VAM; and PM+NC+Panchakavya) and inorganic (recommended dose of NPK (100:100:50 g/pit; 2 splits) and higher dose of NPK (150:150:75 g/pit; 2 splits)) fertilizers. Controls with no organic and inorganic fertilizer applications were included. The organic manures and inorganic fertilizers significantly affected the canopy spread. There was a progressive increase in the spread of the tree from vegetative growth to maturity. The canopy spread was significantly increased (1.82) by the application of PM+NC+Panchakavya at harvesting stage in the main crop. A similar trend was observed for ratoon crop, having 1.88 m canopy spread at harvesting stage. The single treatment of increased level of NPK fertilizer also favourably affected the canopy spread at harvesting stage, i.e. 1.80 m in the main crop and 1.89 in the ratoon crop. The treatment combination of PM+NC+Panchakavya+increased level of NPK was found to be the best, recording the highest canopy spread of 1.93 m in the main crop and 2.04 m in the ratoon crop during harvest stage..
