Wool Prices Surge

As farmers will have noted from their recent 2011 BWMB wool price schedule and estimate of their 2011 clip value, British wool is at long last being valued as the high quality fibre it is. There are, as ever, a number of reasons for this change in thefortunes of the wool market, not least of which is the classic supply and demand balance. Shrinking sheep flocks in many of the southern hemisphere countries, notably Australia and New Zealand, as well as national flock reductions across the EU have created a shortage of supply at a time when demand is rising healthily. This surge in price has also been aided by the competitive bidding driven by BWMB wool auctions and, much like the live markets for stock, wool auctions are proving their worth as the best way to extract maximum value from your wool at a time of rising demand.
