Described are water-in-oil type emulsion sunscreens with excellent UV protection capability and that are non-sticky and water-resistant when applied to human skin. The compositions comprise octinoxate and octocrylene as the sunscreen actives with dimethylpolysiloxane for water-resistance, a silicone-chain branched-type alkyl/polyoxyethylene-modified silicone as the emulsifier and an ester formed from an isocarboxylic acid with an isoalcohol such as isononyl isononanoate as part of the oil phase.
