WE'RE USED TO seeing the phrase "Made in China." But some investing pros say the more important phrase these days is "Bought in China." While some pros doubt China's building boom will last, few question the staying power of what is, oddly, a spending binge by consumers in the world's largest communist country. That could be a boost for firms who cater to the whims of China's burgeoning spending set. "We're quite positive on the Chinese consumer," says Margaret Kalvar, a global-consumer analyst at investment firm Harding Loevner, which has more than $7 billion in assets under management.
