Mortar locating radar story solved a mystery

My son sent me the article on the mortar locating radar in Vietnam (Serviceman's Log, February 2014) and boy-oh-boy did it solve a 40-year old mystery! On those nights when mortar bombs were fired at us by the enemy in Nui Dat, always as we tried to sleep at night unless on sentry duty, we hoped the locating detachment would feed the mortar base-plate co-ordinates to our gun battery for counter fire.
