Connecting a Car Alarm to the SMS Controller

I have successfully completed the SMS Controller (SILICON CHIP, October & November 2004) and I am trying to connect it to a car alarm. Does the car alarm have to be specially designed to handle SMS controllers because I am having trouble locating somewhere where the voltage drops below 3V? Any advice would be helpful. (C.
