Although the majority of research focused on sexually harmful behaviour centres on men as the perpetrators, an increased awareness of women as sexual offenders has surfaced in recent years, perhaps in response to a number of highly publicised cases. This innovative book presents a comprehensive collection of chapters drawing from the most topical research, treatment methods and assessment of female sexual offenders. The book offers an extensive overview of current theoretical and empirical understanding of female sexual offending and outlines some helpful tools and methods for practitioners working with women who sexually offend. The book's introduction reminds the reader that the most available information and research has been garnered from experience with, and research on, male sexual offenders. This theme is consistent across the chapters, but the book does an excellent job of presenting an exhaustive examination of the main issues facing both practitioners and researchers. Most importantly, the information presented in the book is detailed enough to increase awareness of this somewhat neglected population of sex offenders and to enhance expertise amongst practitioners.
