Pilot scale cultivation of Kappaphycus alvarcziims carried out during April 2015 - June 2015 at two different localities viz. Chepala Timmapuram (Visakhapatnam District) and Mukkam (Vizianagaram District) of Bay of Bengal waters, Andhra Pradesh, Eastcoast of India. Monoline tubular method and monoline net bag method were adopted. In monoline tubular method the average crop yield and average DGR were found to be 287.76 ±14.45 kg FW/60m and 3.48 ±0.01 % respectively at Chepala Timmapuram with the respective values of 283.50 ± 14.55 kg FW/60m and 3.45 ± 0.01 % at Mukkam. In monoline net bag method the mean crop yield was 332.01 ± 18.17 kg FW/60m with mean DGR 3.80 ± 0.05% at Chepala Timmapuram and the mean crop yield was 320.82 ± 14.29 kg FW/60m with mean DGR 3.72 ± 0.02% at Mukkam. At ChepalaTimmapuram mean carrageenan (SRC) yield and mean gel strength (GS) were found to be 34.22 ± 1.61 % and 390.72 ± 33.19 g cm'respectively in tubular method and SRC was 29.77 ± 1.17% with gel strength 343.24 ± 24.30 g cm~2in net bag method. At Mukkam mean SRC and mean GS were 35.35 ± 1.11 % and 342.98 ± 10.98 g cm"2 respectively in tubular method with respective values of 30.90 ± 0.56% and 322.70 ± 10.52 g cm~2 in net bag method. The environmentalparameters viz. surface seawatertemperature, salinity, nitrate and phosphate were found to be conducive for the growth of this seaweed. Cultivation of this seaweed by coastal people would supplementtheir income as is evident in the costal population of Tamilnadu.
