One of the top design priorities for gas sensors is developing simple, low-cost, sensitive (at low detection limit) and reliable sensors to be built in handheld portable devices. However, the need to implement heating elements in sensor devices, and to achieve high response for lower gas concentration at room temperature, remains a major task for the realization of miniaturized and integrated resistive film gas sensors. Here, we report on design and synthesis of cost effective novel gas sensor for the detection and quantification of wide range gas concentrations at ambient conditions. An activated carbon film successfully deposited on flexible plastic substrate showed high response to flammable liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) with detection limits down to parts per million (ppm) levels. Our results revealed an efficient LPG sensor which can detect and quantify LPG leakage with high stability.
