Navy Christens Seventh Lewis and Clark-Class Ship,USNS Carl Brashear

USNS Carl Brashear(T-AKE 7),the seventh ship in the U.S.Navy's Lewis and Clark-dass of dry cargo/ammunition ships,was christened and launched this fall at the General Dynamics(Falls Church,Virginia)National Steel and Shipbuilding Co.shipyard in San Diego,California.The ship is named in honor of Master Chief Petty Officer Carl Brashear,the first African American to qualify and serve as a master diver in the Navy.Chief of Naval Operations Adm.Gary Roughead discussed the ship's name.
