摘要

Serial sectioning has become a standard technique for creating three-dimensional representations of microstructures. Registering large numbers of images with respect to a common reference frame, in particular when images are taken by a number of different detectors, is a complex problem that cannot easily be solved using standard cross-correlation techniques. An alternative technique, based on image entropy and mutual information, is applied to the problem of multimodal image registration. Two examples of mutual information based image registration are provided.
