Report of the Annual Conference of the International Laboratory Accreditation Co-operation (ILAC), October 13-15,1997, held at the National Institute for Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg, USA

Over the past twenty years, ILAC has played a key role in helping develop international accreditation standards (ISO 25) and guides. ILAC is in a transition phase from a loosely organised meeting platform into a structured association with a network (secretariat), clear membership structures and voting rights. A memorandum of understanding (MOU), which is to spell out ILAC's future aims and structure, was developed and was to be debated and, hopefully, signed during this annual meeting. ISTA has taken part in ILAC for some years. The 1997 annual ILAC Conference was held in Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA, which is just a few miles outside of Washington DC.
