The M-216 Polymer Injection Machine promises greener turf, less water use and reduced irrigation costs. California-based American Soil Technologies Inc. (ASTI), along with engineers at Diedrichs & Associates Inc., Cedar Falls, Iowa, designed this unique machine to inject a liquid cross-linked polymer solution into established turf such as golf courses, sports fields and landscaped areas. ASTI specializes in soil amendment products that will decrease water use for agricultural, horticultural and turf-related applications. The company's non-toxic cross-linked polymer Nutrimoist L is granular in solid form, but it transforms into a hydrogel when hydiated, absorbing up to 400 times its weight in water. When added to the soil, the polymers hold high levels of moisture and nutrients in the root zone and reduce soil compaction.
