ELECTED OFFICIALS VISIT SEVERAL RECYCLERS

Three scrap recycling companies opened their facilities to four U.S. congressmen in recent months, with Schupan & Sons (Kalamazoo, Mich.) welcoming Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.), Brenner Recycling (Hazleton, Pa.) greeting Reps. Lou Barletta (R-Pa.) and Kevin Brady (R-Texas), and Muskingum Iron & Metal Co. (Zanesville, Ohio) hosting Pat Tiberi (R-Ohio). The visits gave the elected officials a firsthand look at how recycling facilities process scrap into specification-grade commodities that are sold around the world, helping the U.S. trade balance. The representatives also learned about the industry's contributions to U.S. employment and environmental conservation. The tours gave the host recyclers an opportunity to discuss the challenges their businesses currently face, including materials theft and regulations.
