On any given day, as many as 40 artists roam the yard at Biltmore Iron & Metal Co. Inc. in Asheville, N.C., seeking the perfect pieces of scrap for their artworks. Obviously, Biltmore Iron is into art, and no one at the company is more enthusiastic about it than Vonna Cloninger, the firm's CEO. "This area is known for its artists, and we've had metal sculptors buying material from us for more than 20 years," she says. "We even pay more insurance so we can open our yard to local artists. The art schools in the area tell their students to come here, and we're listed in all the art supply catalogs."
