Energy Savings from the Coke Oven to the Steel Plant

摘要

Today state-of-the-art operation of iron- and steelmaking plants is unthinkable without automation systems for the different metallurgical processes, as coke oven, sinter plants, blast furnaces and steel production units for both BOF as well as EAF based production routes. In addition to the supervision of steel quality and productivity modern process optimization systems aim at the efficient use of energy and raw materials. Siemens VAI automation systems feature direct and indirect energy savings contributing to the overall reduction of total energy consumption per ton of crude steel. An energy management system provides functionalities for transparent energy balancing, CO_2 emission monitoring, load management, energy consumption planning and energy optimization. The implementation of efficient energy solutions, such as the newly developed Siemens VAI Energy Manager, benefits the environment and contributes to long-term economical viability in steel production. This paper describes the basic principles of the different optimization and energy management systems as well as their implication to steel production and energy savings.
