Not surprisingly, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species' (CITES) rejection of the proposed trade ban on eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean bluef in tuna upset a lot of people. Several vexed nations and NGOs spoke up against the outcome from the conference which was led by the United Nations body in Doha, Qatar. It should be noted the proposal for Appendix I status was not lost by a slim margin, it was soundly quashed with 68 votes against, 20 in favor and 30 abstentions.
