Indonesia to extend import curbs to CRC, wire rod

Indonesia plans to extend its national standard for steel (SNI) to cold rolled coil, wire rod, and nails, to further restrict "sub-standard" imports in the domestic market, a senior government official told MB. The ministry of trade and industry is working on the draft SNI regulation for the three products, and may pass it either this month or next month, said Ansari Bukhari, the ministry's director general for metal, textile and miscellaneous industries. The regulation has been seen as an indirect form of protectionism, the real aim of which is simply to curb cheap imports rather than impose technical standards.
