It happens all too often: The actions of the worst actors in our industry hit the media spotlight, and suddenly the industry's public perception suffers as a result. Then regulators and legislators get involved, and the entire industry is made to pay for the transgressions of the few. What's particularly unfortunate about these situations is that the actions of the few "bad apples" can overshadow our industry's good work and contributions. All we do to create jobs, help our nation's balance of trade, and preserve the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions falls by the wayside when someone knowingly buys stolen materials, delivers lower-grade material than a contract specified, or does something else that's ethically questionable.
