Iran to start coal-based DRI production

An Iranian private steel company is to launch an SL/RN sponge iron plant in Damghan, in the northeast of the country, Platts learned from the Association of Iranian Steel Producers. This is a coal-based DRI technology and is the first time an Iranian steel producer is using coal to produce sponge iron.
