Brazilian steelmakers have slashed buying prices for both shredded and heavy melting scrap (HMS) in mid-October, reflecting weak demand for finished steel products. Most domestic scrap dealers surveyed Wednesday reported stagnation in the mar-ket. “Local mills are paying and buying less because of reduced steel shipments. Also, because they do not want to accumulate large inventories,” one dealer told Platts Steel Business Briefing.
