2012 in review: Snapshot of China mill economics

摘要

As a preview to the upcoming Platts Steel Mill Economics spreads, we examined the monthly average prices in 2012 of 62% iron ore fines (basis IODEX) and mid-vol hard coking coal delivered to China in comparison to the monthly price of exported hot-rolled coil from Shanghai. The average spread between the price of this Chinese flat-rolled steel and its major blast furnace input prices was nearly $276/mt for the year.
