Hard coking coal price steady amid good prompt demand

Spot prices of hard coking coal ended the week on a steady note as Chinese steel and coke makers continued to seek cargoes arriving before the Lunar New Year. Platts assessed premium low-vol HCC unchanged at $163/mt FOB Australia, while second-tier HCC was also static at $143/mt FOB. Appetite for December-loading, or on-the-water, shipments of premium Australian low-vol HCC could be seen in the mid-$170s/mt CFR, though no new cargoes were heard available besides those held by traders currently sailing to China.
