China imported 62.45 million mt of iron ore in August, up 6% year on year, and 8% month on month, data released by the General Administration of Customs of China over the weekend showed. Australia, still the largest supplier of iron ore to China, sold 31.78 million mt in August, up 21% year on year and 25% month on month. In August Australian imports accounted for 51% of all iron ore imported by China. “This increase in Australian material has largely been because of the expansion in production capacity from mines there,” a Singapore-based trader said Monday.
