Spot coking coal steady to slightly higher on China buying

Prices of metallurgical coal were either static or slightly higher Thursday in what remained a generally liquid spot market, with most of the activity centered on China. Platts assessed premium low-vol hard coking coal 50 cents higher at $147/mt FOB Australia, while second-tier coal edged a touch higher on the back of new transactions heard, gaining $1/mt to $127/mt FOB. Despite the incremental rise, there continued to be some bearish voices in the market.
