A lot has changed in the quarter century since the Top 100 Saskatchewan companies ranking was first published.When the first edition of this ranking was released, television viewers were seeing Jeopardy for the first time with Alex Trebek, and Miami Vice was making its debut along with the Cosby Show. Back in 1984 when the first Top 100 hit the newsstands Grant Devine was premier. Saskatchewan was in its last period of significant in-migration as Devine was proclaiming that this province was 'Open for Business' and we had chosen not to participate in the recession that was gripping other parts of the nation. Hazen Argue, a member of the Senate, was Saskatchewan's representative in the federal cabinet as we didn't have an MP on the government side of the House. Larry Schneider was Regina mayor and his Saskatoon counterpart, Cliff Wright, also chaired the board of the Potash Corporation.
