The intensive use of brine shrimps in aquaculture imposes some requirements on shrimp cysts. The key requirement is a high hatchability, which reflects the number of viable embryos. Hatchability is estimated by several generally accepted parameters (Sorgeloos et al., 1986). All these parameters are easy to measure while checking brine shrimp cysts after reactivation.Estimating the viability of cysts at the early stages of diapause is significantly more difficult, since the hatchability of cysts in the collecting period in most Siberian populations of brine shrimps is at most 3–5% (Solovov and Studenikina, 1990). For artificial termi-nation of diapause, brine shrimp embryos are treated with hydrogen peroxide (Bogatova and Erofeeva,1982). But this procedure is often inefficient in termi-nating early stages of diapause in all normal embryos. The purpose of this study was, therefore, to estimate the influence of several different reactivating factors on brine shrimp cysts at the early stages of diapause.
