摘要

Kinetics of oxidation of disubstituted azoxybenzenes by permanganate in aqueous acetic acid medium has been studied under different experimental conditions.The major product is found to be nitrosobenzene.The order with respect to [oxidant] is unity and those with respect to [substrate] and [H~+] are found to be fractional order.It is found that the rate of the reaction decreased with increasing dielectric constant of the medium.The reaction has been studied for some meta-and para-disubstituted azoxybenzenes at four different temperatures viz.303,308,313 and 318 K and activation parameters were calculated.The validity of Hammett's equation for the reaction is tested.A probable mechanism has been proposed.
