Combined Type I and II First Branchial Cleft Anomaly

Branchial anomalies represent remnants of the branchial apparatus. The incidence of first branchial anomalies is low, fewer than 10% of all branchial cleft anomalies. In 1972, Work classified first branchial cleft anomalies into type I and type II. Type I lesions represent a duplication of the membranous external auditory canal (EAC). Type II lesions represent a duplication of the EAC and auricle. In this report, a patient with a first brachial cleft anomaly that had a combination of type I and type II forms is described. This is the second reported case of combined type I and II first branchial cleft anomalies and the first reported case of connected type I and type II fistula tracts.
