Survey on knowledge, attitude and practice on sustainable agriculture among rural farmers in Hamadan Province, Iran.

This study was conducted to determine the knowledge level, attitude and practical application of sustainable agriculture of rural farmers in Hamadan Province, Iran. The data were gathered by administering a questionnaire to 582 farmers from the area, during 2003-04. The questionnaire was comprised of four sections, eliciting information on farmers' personal and occupational background, knowledge, attitude, and practical application of sustainable agriculture. Results showed that the mean score of the farmers' knowledge, attitude and practical application of sustainable agriculture was 81.52 (16.92), 73.46 (15.20) and 58.04 (14.13), respectively. A positive relation was recorded between knowledge and attitude (r=0.38, p<0.001). It is suggested that rural farmers have a major and crucial task as agricultural authorities and decision makers to promote knowledge, develop attitude and improve the agricultural practices of farmers..
