Chemostratigraphy,one of a number of "modern" stratigraphic techniques being developed for the oil industry,involves the characterisation and correlation of sedimentary strata based on variations in bulk inorganic geochemical data.While the technique,in its current form,has been used in the petroleum industry for over fifteen years,over the past 4 to 5 years,it has started to become an accepted,mainstream stratigraphic tool.
