An experiment was conducted to compare the efficacy of Bacillus thuringiensis and abamectin at 1 g/l (Bta) with Lorsban (chlorpyrifos) at 5 ml/l, Megamos (methamidophos) at 1.25 ml/l and Trend (acetamiprid) at 4 ml/l in controlling aphids (L. erysimi) on mustard (Eruca sativa [E. vesicaria]) in Peshawar, Pakistan, during 2004-05. These compounds were first sprayed when the density of the aphids reached 10/leaf and repeated at 15 days after the first spray. All the pesticides (being non-significant from one another) resulted in significant control of aphids over the control. The mean yield of mustard seed was significantly higher in chlorpyrifos treatment (581 kg/ha) compared to Bta treatment (477 kg/ha).
