Variation in garlic varieties for reaction to natural infection of Puccinia porri Wint and Alternaria porri Clif at Swabi, NWFP.

Six local garlic cultivars (Aglioblanco, Alladher Local, Chinese, Hazro, Peshawar Local and S4) were evaluated for response to P. porri [P. allii] (rust) and A. porri (purple blotch) in Swabi, Pakistan during 2002. Hazro showed high and moderate resistance to rust and purple blotch (with a disease severity of 0.80 and 17.55%, respectively); and also showed the highest yield (9.96 t/ha) and bulb index (6.36 cm). Alladher Local was resistant to rust and moderately susceptible to purple blotch..
