Curious cases - The curious case of a man with schizophrenia and excessive aggression

In this third curious case, we will also meet a patient with treatment-resistant schizophrenia and rages. Unlike the second, this case will focus on excessive aggression and treatment difficulties. Antipsychotic drugs are the principal treatment for patients with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorders. One quarter of those who have experienced an episode of psychosis recover and the illness does not recur. Half do have a recurrent illness but with long episodes of considerable recovery from the positive symptoms. Another 25% experience an unremitting illness. Treatment-resistant schizophrenia is the term generally used for the failure of signs or symptoms to respond satisfactorily to at least 2 different antipsychotic drugs.
