Recently, there has been a growing need to develop more efficient energy utilization systems in response to the growing difference between daytime and nighttime electrical demand in Japan. One approach is a load-leveling system on the demand sidethat uses secondary batteries.We have been conducting R&D on a secondary battery with high energy density and a long cycle life for a dispersed type battery energy storage system that is part of a national project.As a result, we have developed a 2 kWh-class lithium secondary battery using a hybrid carbon material as the negative electrode and a nickel-cobalt composite oxide as the positive electrode. This battery exhibits high energy density and excellent cycleperformance.
