Ironically,workers charged with taking care of people who suffer injuries and illnesses tend to experience a high number of injuries and illnesses themselves.The health care sector was second only to manufacturing in the number of occupational injuries and illnesses in 2005,according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.More than 15 percent of all workplace injuries in 2005 were in the health care and social assistance sector,compared with 20 percent in manufacturing.The construction sector rounded out the"top three,"with 10 percent.Health care was second to manufacturing when it came to work-related illnesses,accounting for nearly 19 percent of occupational illnesses in 2005.Manufacturing accounted for 38 percent,followed by professional and business services at 7 percent.
