Driver's education also part of safety

Your June cover story (See "A Safer Drive?"June 2004,p.22)was a much needed and insightful study of the risks associated with driving-related occupations.However,a great deal of space was dedicated to the issue of traffic enforcement.Although enforcement plays an important role,it is not the solution to the problem.Driver education in America is dismal when compared to other developed countries.The most important safety device in any motor vehicle is the driver,and the driver's ability and level of training.Enforcement of traffic laws has nothing to do with how competent the driver may be.
