Glossina fuscipes fuscipes is the main tsetse species ofeconomic importance in Uganda as it plays a major role in transmission of trypanosomosis.Epidemiology in livestock is determined by prevalence and distribution of arthropod vectorsin affected areas and proportion of infected tsetse flies. We found tsetse apparent densitiesvaried between 0.21-2.13 flies/trap/day across 3 study areas with Glossina fuscipes fuscipesbeing the only species. 376 non teneral flies were trapped, dissected with proboscis, salivarygland and mid-gut for microscopical determination of trypanosome infection. 21 (5.6%) flieswere infected with trypanosomes, significantly (x 2 , 8.05, d.f.= 1,P=0.002), higher in females(81%) than males (19%). Higher infection rates occurred during wet (3.7%), than dry season(1.9%). Infections were due to T. vivax (3.2%), T. congolense (1.3%), and 1.1% for immature(gut only). T. brucei was not isolated. Blood meal analysis by PCR implicated cattle andhuman hosts.
