Response of rice varieties to age of sedlings under late-planted situations during wet season

A field experiment was conducted during wet seasons of 1988 and 1989 to find out suitable variety of rice and optimum age of seedlings for late planting in September. Duration of all the varieties, except Parijat, Jajati and Gayatri (with aged seedlings), decreased due to late sowing/planting. Reduction in duration was maximum due to sowing of sprouted seeds and minimum due to transplanting of aged seedlings. Maximum grain yield was obtained from the variety Gayatri (3068 kg ha~(-1)). Planting with normal seedlings of all the varieties except Gayatri gave significantly higher yield than that of aged seedlings and sprouted seeds. Long duration rice variety Gayatri performed better when planted with aged seedlings.
