Combining ability analysis for identifying elite parents for heterotic rice hybrids

Thirty two rice hybrids obtained in line (4 CMS lines) X tester (eight testers) fashion were evaluated during dry season 1997 at A.R.S., Maruteru. Among the four CMS lines, IR 58025 A & IR 62829 A and among the 8 testers WGL 3962, lET 9762 and IET 10021 were found to be good general combiners for yield and other yield attributes. The hybrids, IR 62829 A / WGL 3962, IR 62829 A/IR 276-301-06-01R, IR 62829A / MTU 9992, APMS 2A / IET 9762, IR 58025 AJ IET 10021 and APMS 1 A/IET 10021 were found to be good heterotic combinations for grain yield.
