Head and neck cancer includes cancers originating in the oral cavity, the oropharynx, the hypopharynx, and the larynx. Collectively these cancers are among the most common in the world accounting for over 550,000 new cases and over 300,000 deaths per year1 - with the greatest burden falling upon low- and medium-income countries.1 Survival for patients with head and neck cancer is poor and there has been limited improvement in the last three decades.
