Continental to invest USD 500 million in new tyre plant in the USA

Continental Tire the Americas, LLC (CTA) will build a new tyre plant in Sumter, SC, USA. The facility will produce tyres for the replacement tyre market and automotive manufacturers. The first phase of production capacity at the plant in this project is expected to be nearly 5 million passenger and light truck tyres when the plant reaches full production levels in 2017. A second phase is expected to bring the plant's capacity to 8 million units per year by 2021. Altogether, more than USD 500 million will be invested and over 1,600 jobs will be created. The company expects to begin construction of the plant in mid-2012 and to complete the facility in 2013.
