Tyre makers seek alternative sources of natural rubber

While the price of natural rubber has fallen in recent months, the long-term story is likely to be one of shortages around the world. Currently, 100 % of the world's natural rubber comes from the single species, Hevea brasiliensis. Of that 93 % originates from South-East Asia. Africa and South America each contribute a few percentage points.
