In his welcome address at the annual pipfruit conference, held for the first time in 20 years in Central Otago, Alan Pollard said a similar outcome to last year could be expected for the 2014 season.Last year returns reached a record $500 million across 550,000 tonnes of total production and 320,000 tonnes of export fruit.The Queenstown conference was well attended with 160 delegates participating in the three-day event. The conference built on the Pipfruit New Zealand strategic plan, which was released at last year's conference and outlined how to achieve a goal of developing the pipfruit industry into a $1 billion export industry by 2022.
