EVEN THOUGH SHE LIVES ONLY 45 miles (72 km) north of Houston, Susan Dally can truthfully say, "Mine is a greenhouse, not a hothouse." And although my husband, Joe, and I visited the built-in greenhouse in her house in July, it truly was comfortable. This was with no air conditioning running, because none exists in the greenhouse, nor does any mechanical heating system. Integrated fully into the design of the house, the greenhouse is 100 percent cooled and heated by sustainable passive solar technology.
