Most New Zealand crops are grown to meet the exacting standards of an international market that wants, and is prepared to pay a premium for, a quality product. Quality aspects such as dry matter levels in kiwifruit, summerfruit and apples, oil contentin avocados and acid to sugar ratios in mandarins are significant if we wish to achieve premium prices over our competition. To maximise these quality attributes we need to have a canopy that is healthy and structured in a way that is going to harvest the all important energy from the sun.
