A phenomenological approach is developed for calculating quantum electrodynamic (QED) corrections to the D-lines of Na-like multicharged ions. The method consists in incorporating the short-range potential into the many-electron theory, with the parameters of the potential calibrated in such a way that the Lamb shift of the 1s level is properly reproduced for the appropriately chosen effective charge. The energy of the 3s1/23p3/2 transition of the Na-like platinum ion Pt67+ is found to be equal to E = 654.18 eV, with the corresponding experimental value of E = 653.44 eV. Upon introducing the Breit correction, this transition energy changes to E = 653.56 eV. The solution of the Hartree–Fock–Dirac equations properly reproduces the order of magnitude for the Lamb shift of the 2s state as well. The D-line transition energies are obtained for the Nalike ions with the nuclear charges 78 Z 83 and Z = 92. Among the corrections to the transition energy calculated quantum mechanically taking into account only the energy of Coulomb electron–electron interaction, the QED correction is most significant. After applying the self-consistency procedure, the QED correction changes the 3p1/23p3/2 doublet splitting by ~0.5–2.0 eV.
