Growing passionfruit in Australia sounds (at first) almost too easy — no fungal disease, hard skins that can take knocks without blemish and almost no pruning. But growers in northern New South Wales and southern Queensland do have to contend with soil disease. And with almost their entire crop destined for local market or processing, grower returns are well down on what their New Zealand counterparts obtain by exporting to the United States.
