Luminescent Properties of In1-xScxBO3 : Bi3+ Solid Solutions

Spectral and luminescent properties of Bi3+ in In1xScxBO3 substitution solid solutions are studied. In the 0 < x < 0.30 range, the emission spectra of solutions exhibit bands related to the 3P0, 1 1S0 transitions in the Bi3+ ion and to radiative decay of impurity-bound excitons, the latter band being shifted to the blue with increasing x. In solutions with x > 0.30, only emission of the Bi3+ ion is observed. The observed changes in luminescent properties are explained by a change in the photoionization threshold of the impurity ion. A scheme is suggested that describes luminescent properties of In1xScxBO3 : Bi3+ solid solutions for 0 < x < 0.30.
